Binnenland:  Het RIOD publiceert een tot nog toe niet-gepubliceerd deel van het Dagboek van Anne Frank

Buitenland:  Het 27ste Sovjet-partijcongres, waarop Gorbatsjovs positie als partijleider versterkt wordt, loopt ten einde. Wel stelt de Russische partijleider Michail Gorbatsjov stelt het Westen voor om de conventionale wapens en strijdkrachten in Europa, “van de Atlantische Oceaan tot de Oeral”, te beperken.

Sport:  Matt Biondi scherpt in Orlando zijn eigen wereldrecord op de 100 meter vrije slag aan tot 48,74 s. Het oude record (48,95 s) stond sinds 6 augustus 1985 op naam van de Amerikaanse zwemmer.
