Wat hield ons bezig in 1981;

Binnenland: Op de Nederlandse televisie gaat op 5 januari 1981 het jeugdjournaal van start. De presentatie is in handen van Leontien Ceulemans.

Buitenland: Met de lancering van de Columbia ging op 12 april 1981 het Amerikaanse Space Shuttle programma van start. Het bijzondere van de Space Shuttle is dat het ruimtevaartuig meerdere keren gebruikt kan worden.

Sport: Het WK Schaatsen van 1981 was voor Hilbert van der Duim een drama. Op de 5.000 meter stopte hij een rondje te vroeg in de race tegen de Noor Amund Sjöbrend. Van der Duim is trouwens nooit gevallen over een poepje.

Muziek: Wie in 1981 de radio aanzette, kon rekenen op een flinke dosis goede muziek. Veel van deze nummers worden nog steeds regelmatig op de radio gedraaid. Ook veel jongeren kennen deze nummers. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan ‘In the air tonight’ van Phil Collins, ‘Tainted love’ van Soft Cell en Kool & the gang met ‘Celebrations’.
