Wat hield ons bezig in 1981;

Binnenland: Na een serie zeer massale demonstraties in verschillende Europese hoofdsteden beleeft Amsterdam met ruim 400.000 demonstranten tegen het NAVO-besluit tot plaatsing van kruisvluchtwapens met nucleaire lading in West-Europa, haar grootste demonstratie ooit. Ze werd georganiseerd door de linkse politieke partijen, de vakbeweging en de vredesbewegingen, waarin het IKV onder leiding van Mient Jan Faber een hoofdrol speelde.

Buitenland: In El Salvador begint het Front Farabundo Martí voor Nationale Bevrijding (FMLN) een groot offensief. De regering roept de staat van beleg uit. Sinds de machtsovername door de junta op 17 oktober1979 zijn volgens schattingen van de Mensenrechtencommissie van de VN ten minste 14.000 mensen het slachtoffer geworden van politiek geweld. Alle partijen die linkser zijn dan de Christendemocratische Partij – maar zelfs linkervleugels van die partij – moeten hun werk in de illegaliteit doen.

Sport:  In het Olympisch Stadion wint AZ’67 de KNVB-beker door Ajax met 3-1 te verslaan. Hiermee veroveren de Alkmaarders voor het eerst, en tot op heden voor de enige maal, de dubbel.
