Buitenland:  België wint het 31ste Eurovisiesongfestival in Bergen, Noorwegen. De 13-jarige Sandra Kim behaalt met J’aime la vie 176 punten.

Sport:  Meesterknecht Greg LeMond uit de Verenigde Staten verslaat zijn Franse kopman Bernard Hinault en wint voor de eerste keer de Ronde van Frankrijk.
