Binnenland: VVD-leider Hans Wiegel aanvaardt de post van Commissaris van de Koningin van de provincie Friesland. Ed Nijpels wordt gekozen tot nieuwe VVD-fractievoorzitter in de Tweede Kamer.

Buitenland: De gehele westerse pers spreekt schande van het bezoek van de Libische revolutionaire leider Qadhafi aan Oostenrijk, diens eerste staatsbezoek aan een westers land. Van Qadhafi wordt aangenomen dat hij nauwe banden heeft met het internationale terrorisme.

Sport:   Allereerste officiële interland van de Nederlandse vrouwenrugbyploeg. Tegenstander is Frankrijk, dat met 4-0 wint.
